L'île Tristan

The mysterious island known as Ile Tristan lies just out of reach in Douarnenez Bay. It belongs to the French equivalent of the National Trust and can only be accessed with a recognised guide, at certain low tides.

Free to visit and easily accessible on foot from the coastal path of Les Plomarc'h. This is one of the most important archaeological sites in northern Europe, particularly concerning ancient Gallo-Roman industry. Come and see where the Romans made their fish-based condiment known as 'garum'.
