    The mysterious island known as Ile Tristan lies just out of reach in Douarnenez Bay. It belongs to the French equivalent of the National Trust and can only be accessed with a recognised guide, at certain low tides.   For information on the island, its history and legends, try our guided visit.     Throughout the walk, the secrets of the island are gradually revealed: the fort of Napoleon III, the old canning factories, the mansion of the Richepin family where Parisian high society held their parties - and even the terrible legends of Guy Eder de La Fontenelle, brigand and thief!
