LE JUCH

Meaning: ‘Ar yeuc'h' in Breton ‘the clump' or ‘the perching place'

Pronounced: ‘Le Duke'

Population: 721 inhabitants, known as 'juchois'.

This village, nestled in its own green setting with sparkling colours, certainly knows how to win over its visitors. Walk around Le Juch and you'll discover:

  • The valley and its beautiful view.

  • The village centre: typical local architecture with tradition Breton houses made of granite.

  • The church, its churchyard, its altar stone and its famous ‘devil' - a small carving of St Michel defeating the dragon, which was once the focus for unusual local rituals: in order to ward off danger, the fishermen and sailors of Douarnenez would come and place tobacco and cigarette stubs in the mouth of the statue!

Nevet Woods (accessible by bike or on foot)

River fishing (for trout)
